derby at the byrdie party recap
Friday, May 4th, 2012
what do a couture fashion boutique, DIY hats, fresh mint juleps and a teacup pig have in common? apparently when they all come together at the right time it makes a great party! Jess and I had an awesome time with Lindsay from Bakers last night at the Derby at the Bydie party, a great fashion show that was put together at Byrd Style Lounge here in St. Louis. We set up a DIY hat table where we were helping guests adorn some of Bakers’ amazing floppy hats with flowers and ribbons after they treated themselves to free apps from Crushed Red and great drinks! Big hats and bright colors were everywhere! Here are some shots of the action:
We had a great time at and could not be more excited about getting a TON more use out of our floppy-brimmed hats this season!
>> The Kentucky Derby is TOMORROW, are you ready?? If not, no worries! Jess put together this handy party guide and I made sure you knew what to wear earlier this week. Check those entries out and you should be set in no time! <<
ciao!

Blogger of the Week: Annabel Wendt of LoveMore
Friday, May 4th, 2012
We recently discovered Annabel Wendt, an Australian beauty and the fashion blogger behind LoveMore. A self-proclaimed “lover of all things ’90s and nostalgic”, she immediately won us over with her retro-edgy wardrobe–which includes everything from crop tops, printed sundresses and denim jackets to chunky knits, maxi skirts and blast-from-the-past band tees (think New Kids on the Block). A designer for the brand, she wears covetable pieces by MINKPINK on the regular–and has been known to accessorize with offbeat extras; our faves include her signature half-topknot, high-top Converse sneakers and “party socks” from American Apparel.

throw a party: Kentucky Derby
Thursday, May 3rd, 2012
The annual horse race that has everyone digging out their wide brimmed floppy hats and mixing up mint juleps is Saturday! More than just a couple minutes of racing, a well planned party can keep the excitement going for hours. A few items are guaranteed to make your derby party feel authentic.
1: metal tumblers for traditional mint juleps! 2: rose arrangements (it is the race for roses, after all!). 3: stick horses, for decoration…or mock races. 4: a cheese platter is the perfect springtime snack. 5: fresh mint – to make your party smell great (…and for the mint juleps).
Will you be watching the Kentucky Derby this year? Share your party plans with us!

cinco essentials for cinco de mayo.
Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012
It’s already May and we’re just days away from Cinco de Mayo! I’ve come up with the cinco (five!) party essentials needed to throw a fantastic Cinco de Mayo bash!
one :: colorful decorations! this DIY from Oh Happy Day is so festive!
two :: themed treats. i love these margarita cupcakes from The Cupcake Project.
three :: tacos! no cinco de mayo party would be complete without this tasty classic – chicken tacos from City in a Jar.
four :: bright tumblers for sipping those margaritas. i adore this glass wear from Anthropologie.
five :: a simple, fun, and relaxed tablecloth from Anthropologie.
Will you be celebrating cinco this Saturday? Making anything super fun? Let us know!

Kentucky Derby 2012 Style: What to Wear
Tuesday, May 1st, 2012
Flirty, floral and feminine are always staples, but push your Derby style up even further with sky-high pumps and bold details! The classic look always puts emphasis on the hats: the bigger the better! But this year also brighten your brights and choose floral prints that pop.
Which of these Derby styles is closest to what you would (or will!) wear this weekend?

Last Thursday the Shoeternity girls hit the tracks to get some photos for Derby week! Here are some behind-the-scenes photos of us goofing off before the official ones are released later this week:
What are you doing for Derby? Have you already picked out your outfit and the best party in town to be seen at?

Trend Alert: Black & White, & Bright All Over
Saturday, April 28th, 2012
When it comes to the hottest styles du jour, many were clearly inspired by pieces made popular during the decade of excess–otherwise known as the 1980s. In other words, this spring and summer, your best bet is to go big! While you can feel free to keep your go-to black and white neutrals in your outfit rotation, you’ll definitely want to add drama on the daily–by way of swimwear, skinnies, sunnies and more in poppy shades of red, blue and yellow. The result? A “totally tubular” look, all season long.

one blazer: three ways
Friday, April 27th, 2012
When I purchase something for my wardrobe, I make sure sure I can wear it at least two different ways. With something as bold as a polka dot blazer, I definitely had to make sure that each time I wore it the outfit would be varied. Turns out it’s a pretty versatile addition to my closet!
1 :: For the first ensamble, I paired the polka dot blazer with a high/low sheer skirt (it also has teeny tiny polka dots), a white tee, and bright heels!
2 :: The second outfit mixes patterns – a patterned tank with the polka dot blazer on top paired with skinnies and simple black heels.
3 :: Styled look number three layers the polka dot blazer on top of a sheer pink dress with some sassy red heels – perfect for a night out!
How would you style this patterned blazer?!

Blogger of the Week: Annabelle Fleur of VivaLuxury
Friday, April 27th, 2012
It seems Los Angeles-based Annabelle Fleur is one of those girls who looks amazing 24/7. Wondering just how she does it, I spent some time on her popular fashion blog, VivaLuxury–and discovered some secrets to her feminine, flirty style. First, she loves a combo consisting of an airy blouse and either a “twirly” skirt or cropped skinnies–so on-trend! Second, she’s a fan of bright color–and is currently loving orange. I plan to brave the shade immediately. Finally, like any smart girl, she has a few signature accessories–namely, a cute clutch and heels with a delicate, of-the-moment ankle strap. Decidedly inspired, I’m thrilled it’s the weekend–so I can make an appointment for a (colorful!) pedi, and go strappy shoe shopping immediately…

Spirit of the West
Tuesday, April 24th, 2012
Who says that the south should get all the charm? This transitional look is inspired by easy warm weather travel and could carry you from spring to summer with near minimal effort. I love the cargo pants updated by being made skinny and cowboy boots that I could pull on every day! With a bit of texturizer in my hair and an illuminated face, my morning would be so simple and I could get back on the road that much faster.
what kind of outfit could you just pull on with your eyes closed and you know it would still look great?
ciao!
