Blogger of the Week: Annabel Wendt of LoveMore

We recently discovered Annabel Wendt, an Australian beauty and the fashion blogger behind LoveMore. A self-proclaimed “lover of all things ’90s and nostalgic”, she immediately won us over with her retro-edgy  wardrobe–which includes everything from crop tops, printed sundresses and denim jackets to chunky knits, maxi skirts and blast-from-the-past band tees (think New Kids on the Block). A designer for the brand, she wears covetable pieces by MINKPINK on the regular–and has been known to accessorize with offbeat extras; our faves include her signature half-topknot, high-top Converse sneakers and “party socks” from American Apparel.

Happy First Day of Spring!

Well, it’s officially official – Spring has arrived!

No more procrastination. It’s time to clean our your closets and get your wardrobe ready for a brighter, bolder season. I’m admittedly scared of color, but I’m getting over my fear. With the mints, corals, and baby blues out this Spring, I can’t help but crave a more vivid closetscape.

Fresh for Spring: Bold Florals

A hot trend most every spring, floral prints are back this year–in bold clusters more vivid than ever  before. Decorating work-perfect blazers, chic button-downs, short shorts and flirty shoes, florals of all varieties are must-wear motifs this season. Opt for head-to-pansies one day, and brighten-up a monochromatic ensemble with rosy accessories the next. However you sport them, you’re bound to look of-the-moment and fresh–while communicating to a certain someone that flowers aren’t only for special occasions…

Blogger of the Week: Charlene O’Rourke of Strutt

When it comes to fashion, it can be hard to pinpoint what, exactly, looks best on you–but, it seems 24-year-old fashion designer (shop her creations, here) Charlene O’Rourke has got it all figured out. The England-based blogger behind strutt is rarely seen working anything other than a red pout, a black pork pie hat, tights, tall shoes and a skirt or shorts with a high hemline. In addition, she fancies loud prints–and has been known to piece a number of them together to create cute, bolder-than-bold looks. As I’m still testing the waters to define my winning look, I’ll be copping her stripes-and-florals combo as soon as possible. Who knows? I just may find that clashing is my new black…

Blogger of the Week: Jess Tran of Jess Loves Fred

Ever since we discovered Jess Tran–the 18-year-old PR/advertising student and fashion blogger from Sydney–we have been motivated to trade-in every basic piece in our wardrobes for clothing and accessories that are decidedly bold. From her asymmetrical haircut to her signature statement necklaces and colorful sunnies, there’s nothing boring about the self-professed thrift store junkie’s feminine-cool style. We love her knack for both working loud prints, and pairing unlikely looks–including multiple polka-dotted pieces, and sundresses with borrowed-from-the-boys loafers. We’re also fans of the fact that a number of her cutest buys are Etsy and eBay finds. Like Jess, we’d bid on a leopard print clutch any day…

Winter 2011 Trends: Equestrian Styles & Pony Prints

Hold your horses! Before you hit the stores this weekend (you know you’re planning on it!), make sure you know which trends are hot for fall and which will survive through winter. There’s nothing worse than buyer’s remorse…
One that has longevity (you’re bound to wear it next year, and the year after that) is equestrian wear–which includes riding jackets, riding pants, riding boots (our fave!) and the like. Though expected on the runways of Ralph Lauren and Gucci (think clothing and accessories bedecked with harnesses and horse bits, and often in soft suede), a surprising number of designers have recently relied on horse play to liven up their looks. We’re seeing herds of pony prints, which seem fresh, and love that Western-inspired pieces are back in the saddle.
We’re planning to shop saddle bags, jockey-look layers and luxe leather boots–all before Monday morning. Giddy-up!

Yea or Neigh? This season, decide to horse around.

Celeb Style: M.I.A.

Since the first time I saw M.I.A burst onto my television screen over four years ago in her “Bucky Done Gun” music video, I can honestly say I have never seen a woman rock tribal/Eastern/hip hop-inspired threads the way she had. The ultra-vibrant colors of each of her outfits looked like a delicious rainbow of silks and satins I could only dream to pull off in my own college town universe. But M.I.A.’s style, like her music, is ever-evolving, constantly sampling different genres and completely original.

Her trademark sunglasses and conductor’s hats always seem to grab my attention but it’s her outfits that really exude her creativity as an artist and as a woman with a strong connection to her heritage. Always opting for loud, tribal prints and trends typically donned by early ninties rappers, M.I.A. could grab the attention of a blind man. Feeling a little bit intimidated by her colorful, even eccentric style? That’s okay, you can still pull off a little bit of M.I.A. style without jeopardizing your reputation as a fashion conscious dresser.

Here are some tips for getting the everyday version of her look: Opt for black, rather than primary colored spandex leggings, they will definitely give your outfit an edge without looking too bold. Patterns are always a must, but chose either a printed top or bottoms, not both. Mix larger pieces of gold jewelry with your accessories and don’t be afraid to add unusual accessories into your ensemble as well. Conductor hats are always a good choice and if M.I.A gives it the go-ahead, it’s safe to say it will be in style for a while.
